Zithromax (azithromycin) is efficient in the treatment of infections that have been caused by bacteria. There are also a number of other conditions that can be treated with the help of this medicine, but it’s up to your health care provider to decide which ones they are. If you have been recommended the oral suspension you should shake it well before using it to make sure the medicine is mixed evenly. Take the entire amount of the medicine prescribed even if you feel better, as feeling better does not mean all the bacteria have been eliminated. If you are allergic to the active ingredient of this medicine or similar antibiotics, such as erythromycin, clarithromycin, or dirithromycin taking Zithromax can cause the same reaction in you again. In case of taking any of the following drugs inform your health care provider about it: phenytoin, anticoagulants, cyclosporine, digoxin, ergotamine, nelfinavir, medications that suppress the immune system, dihydroergotamine, and terfenadine.
If you have been diagnosed with HIV, have irregular heartbeat, cystic fibrosis, kidney or liver disease let your health care provider know about it. Your doctor also needs to know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to get pregnant during the treatment, as expectant mothers are not supposed to take this drug. When you experience any of the following serious side effects of Zithromax make sure your doctor knows about them as soon as possible: trouble swallowing or breathing, hives, itching, severe skin rash, yellowing of the skin, irregular heartbeat, and swelling of your limbs or face.
